The Playoffs
The Franklin High Rebels had just come off of a tremendous season with a record of  9 - 1. The seeding of the playoffs left the Rebels with a tough first round match up against Antioch. Some reporters had Antioch picked to win this game due to their offensive backfield. This would be the best duo of running backs the Rebels would face all year.
However, over the past few weeks, a dominate force had overtaken the Rebels. Coach Johnson and his staff had instilled belief in these young men that they could now go all the way to the State Championship. And that they did.
Eleven charter buses of fans and students packed up to make the trek to Germantown on November 26, not to mention the enormous number of fans who drove themselves. For the second year in a row, the Rebels would face Germantown for the Semifinal Round. Trailing 10 - 6 at the half, Franklin came out with what could easily be the most dominating second half any of these players have ever been involved in. Franklin scored 24 unanswered points and held Germantown to only 14 offensive plays in the second half.
For the third year in a row, Franklin would face Brentwood for the Quarterfinal Round. With the only loss of the year coming at the hands of Brentwood, Franklin had a point to make and get revenge. Brentwood scored immediately after a miscue by Franklin on the opening kickoff. From then on, Franklin controlled the ground with Derrian Waters rolling up 187 yards rushing and Franklin's defense holding Brentwood to 52 yards rushing. The game was the usual Franklin vs. Brentwood grudge match with the victor Franklin demonstrating their incredible will to win.
Franklin defeated Clarksville during the regular season for homecoming. The score for that game was 51 - 28, the largest score Franklin posted all year. By the time the playoffs came around, Clarksville had improved dramatically. After a scoreless first half, Franklin scored on a Derrian Waters touchdown in the 3rd quarter. Clarksville tied the game in the 4th quarter. Then, in a dramatic go ahead score, David Campbell kicked a 55 yard field goal, the longest of his career and most likely, the sweetest of his career.
Antioch rolled in to Howard Gamble Stadium on November 5th to show Franklin fans what Region 5-5A could do. The game was hard fought and the running backs from Antioch proved they were all they had been built up to be. Only one thing got in their way, their running backs were up against a team. A team made up of eleven players working as one single unit on the field. Franklin won the game and would proceed to the next round. That night, all 4 teams from Region 6-5A, eliminated all four teams from Region 5 in the playoffs.
